Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first full-lengthed colored animated film. It's based on the German fairy tale Snow White by the Brothers Grimm. To create the characters for the movies they had to first draw them out an color them in by hand. When people first saw this movie everyone was in awe to see a colored film. The worldwide gross of this film was $8.5 million dollars.
Watch how they drew the seven dwarfs:
I'm sure, without a doubt that 8.5 million dollars in the 1930s was a lot for a movie. Heck, that's plenty of money for me. Disney really did a number on the movie industry with great films that became true classics. I can't remember watching this movie ever, or within the past ten years, but it's supposed to be good. I can appreciate all the work that went into making it all by hand, and then coloring it in, each and every frame! That's crazy. Now we have computer programs to help, not that I think they make less work, but they make it easier to make movies, and make them look good.
ReplyDeleteWalt Disney is a genius. Creating each character by hand then coloring for every frame must of been very time consuming. But grossing $8.5 million it was time well spent.
ReplyDeleteWow! Grossing 8.5 million dollars during one of the worst economic times our world has ever known is a real achievement. Also the fact that everything was handdrawn on top of that is just a testiment to how brilliant Walt Disney is. Classic forever for sure.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good amount of cash in the 30's and even now! Disney has recently revamped the movie to make it look a little better with the colors and such. they're actually doing this to a couple of the older animated films.
