Rise of Genres/Hayes Code: 60's

Film in the 1960's, were home to new genres. Such as James Bond series. Also Comedy took a big role in films, with Pink Panther and Breakfast At Tiffany's.

This decade also elimated the Hays Code. Hays Code was general outline put forth by early 1930's filmmakers. The code entailed that filmamkers would not include any crude language or scenes. So Hollywood was getting censored and had to film according to the churchs' rules.

  1. Cody, this post greatly shows the evolution of films to what they are today. I never knew about the Hays code, or that films were censored by churches' rules. Films in the present would be so different if this code was still in effect. This was a really informative post. Thank you for posting it. Mary Ann Reday.

  2. Cody, this is an interesting post. I never knew the Hayes Code was what prevented directors from including vulgar language or scenes. I thought this was an artistic decision based on the standards within society at the time. Was Hays Code named after an individual? If so, who is this person?

I believe in artistic expression. I love an interesting mix and variety of films. I do wish more family-friendly fare was offered. Animated and computer generated films are great, but I would love to see more geared towards pre-teens and "tweens" that does not focus on sex.
