Sequels

Hollywood relies on sequels to earn them money and hope they are blockbuster winners. There are many different kinds of sequels.

For examples one they are preplanned or being adapt from a book. They have the title of the book followed by the current installment.e.g. The Chronicles of Naria:The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. As long as this is movie is sucessful, their will be another one, because its a series of books.

Another Example is sequels with numbers, they not necessary give any hint to what will the plot be. Toy Story 2, the title doesnt give away anything, just the audience will be going on another adventure with Woody and Buzz.

Sequels could very well share the same name as its predessors, just plouralize, for example Aliens, sequel to Alien.

Getting back to sequels, in 2010, the top grossing movie domestically was Toy Story 3( Sequel) At of the top ten of highest grossing, 5 of them were sequels. http://boxofficemojo.com/yearly/chart/?yr=2010&p=.htm This link shows the list, go see how many of them are sequels.

  1. sometimes Hollywood over does the sequels. after so many movies, a story line can get confusing and just plain old boring and people will just look at the rest of them movie as if they were trash. like all the different saw movies, after like the 2 one it was just becoming a mixed up movie of just killing and haunting. only some movie that are made have a chance to make it into the area where a squeal would be able to be made.

  2. I agree with Erik. Hollywood overdoes sequels to death to just steal our wallets. I understand that it is necessary for the film industry to make money and all that, but come on make it enjoyable since if it's all about the money it is just crap.

  3. Sometimes, sequels are expecting. Other times, a sequel is not necessary. If a sequel is made, then it has to be better than the first movie and I would love it if the original cast was still in it. I don't see why producers would find different characters to play a part when the world came to love the first person.

  4. Obviously there is an audience for sequel movies. Trust me these movie makers would not keep investing in movies that are not producing a large profit for them. I have to say that I personally enjoyed Shrek, and that I would enjoy every sequel of that movie that comes out.

  5. Sequels are what is wrong with the current movie industry. Hollywood is all about the money and movie studios are more likely to green light a project that is based on a previous money maker that to take a chance on a new project. Once a movie makes money at the box office you can be sure a sequel is on its way. We as consumers need to stop supporting sequels and give new and unknown films a chance. The Hangover was a great film, but I sure as heck don’t want to see The Hangover 2.

  6. It seems that there are sequels to almost every movie, especially Disney movies. Most of the time, you'd agree that sequels aren't as good as the original movie, but lately they have been pretty good! It seems like they're running out of new ideas.

  7. I know im beating a dead horse but i agree, sequels are sometimes a waste of film, time, and money. But there are few times where movies get better and better, like they mentioned the Toy Story Movies. when i was younger i saw the first toy story movie and loved every second of it and all of the movies to follow were just as good. Sometimes its interesting to have a follow up story and see how a character you know and love grow and change and the movie turns out good!just to note a few other movies that i felt did justice were the Transformers movies, The batman movies etc...

  8. Hollywood does overdue the sequel however there are some sequels that are better than the original. Terminator 2 was better than the first Terminator. But they couldn’t stop there and they made Terminator 3 and Terminator: Salvation. When you watch Salvation and think back to what happened in the first three movies, it gets very confusing. It doesn’t help that it’s about time travel.

  9. Sequels are important in the movie production industry. Some movies are produced with a sequel in mind. These films tend to be liked by viewers. However, some movies, such as Smokey and The Bandit, should not have made sequels. Storylines can be drug on to the point of ruining the original plot.
